The Hilo Butcher Shop formerly run by Hop Ick Company has been sold to Wing Lee. The business will continue under the same name and location. All debts to the shop up to November should be promptly settled and creditors must file claims within thirty days.
The American ship Dirigo, sailing from Philadelphia to Honolulu, has put into Montevideo harbor to unload a heated cargo. In Washington, the British Ambassador presented Prince Louis of Battenberg to President Roosevelt yesterday, as reported by c. F. Bradshaw.
Honolulu dispatch reports the Territorial Supreme Court ruled against county outsiders on income tax and rejected Judge Parsons on sheriff appointment authority. The decisions affect the counties of Oahu Maui and Molokai and clarify who may approve police appointments.
Road engineer Gere reports a leasehold owner M M Jordan will accept 350 for surrender of his Piohonua property linked to the new Hilo jail. The deal undercuts appraisers by 150 and leaves 250 to raise via subscription or county. C E Wright offers 100 for the building on site.

London announces Sir Claude Macdonald will become Britain’s first ambassador to Japan in Tokio. The move elevates Japan to equal status with other major powers, replacing the previous envoy role. Macdonald previously served as British minister to Pekin during the Boxer Uprising, sheltering European residents during the siege.
Word from the Volcano House notes renewed Kilauea activity with dense smoke from Muka weewee. A party including Embert M. Brown A L Williams and Mrs H G Claxton visited the crater. Three new cones formed in the pit two emit jets of lava and ash while the third spews black smoke. A lava flow extends from the crater toward the Puna side flooding the pit floor. Brown, who has seen Kilauea thrice this year, calls this the grandest exhibition yet.
Fire at Kukaiau Mill discovered between 3 and 4 am damaged the engine and boiler house with the entire building burned. Laborers saved the vacuum pans in an adjacent building while machinery remained unsured. Estimated loss about 5000 dollars, fully insured. J C Carter of Hilo on site to estimate rebuilding costs.
