Proposal for New Jail Building Bids in Honolulu 1905

Proposals for a two story jail building at Hilo Maui and bid forms must be received before 12 pm June 1905 at the Office of the Superintendent of Public Works Honolulu. Specifications on file with the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works and J F E Richards. A $500 deposit is required to obtain plans and specifications, refundable upon bid return. Bids must be in sealed envelopes and addressed to C S Holloway. The Superintendent reserves right to reject any or all bids. May 16 1905.

Howe Rulers and Democrats Unite on Fusion County Ticket

The Home Rulers and Democrats on the Big Island met at Paseo church last Thursday to form a fusion ticket. Sheriff and county clerk go to Home Rule, while county attorney and auditor go to Democrats. Delegates from all districts chose nominees including Sheriff William Keolanuil and County Clerk Wm. E. Edmonds, with a slate of supervisors and deputy sheriffs across districts.

Japanese Laborers Revolt Strikes Maui Mill Plantation

Wireless dispatch from Honolulu reports a large labor strike at Pioneer Mill Co plantation in Lahaina Maui with 460 workers in dispute. Four hundred sixty men resisted, three killed, Kinau departed with special police and two militia companies. In other news the Sabbath School at First Foreign Church readied Children’s Day programs for the upcoming Sunday morning service.

Republican Executive Committee Chosen at County Convention

After the county Republican convention adjourned, R. A. Lyman Jr. called the County Committee to select an executive committee. Names: R. A. Lyman Jr. chairman, J. McGuire vice-chairman, Chas. Akau secretary, John T. Moir treasurer, plus Pana, G. D. Supe, North and South Hilo, S. Kohala, W. H. Kenton, North Kona, W. Wassman, South Kona, W. J. Wright, Kay, and Dr. W. A. Schwalle. The executive will handle active campaign work, with Lyman and Moir likely carrying most duties due to distance.

Brown's Remarkable Nest Shocks Kaiwiki Fans

Kaiwiki resident Eyg. L. D. Brown reports a hen nest egg with oriental symbols on its shell including a blazing sun a half moon and stars with a bearded face on the reverse side. The egg is believed by locals and visiting Japanese to portend luck the egg may attract bids up to 300 though Brown has refused to sell.

Hamakua Homesteads Taken By Right Of Purchase Lease

Sub-Tand Agent George H. Williams went to Honokau last Saturday to receive applications for several small homestead lots in the Hamakua district. Lot 1 Ahualoa, 65.70 acres, awarded to Joe de Coite for 657 dollars. Lot 2 Ahualoa, 22.70 acres, to M. A. Diaz for 227 dollars. Lot 3 Niupea, 16.84 acres, to Mrs. peace for 202 dollars. Lot 19 in the same locality, 40 acres, to Willie Iokia for an unspecified sum. Nos 71, 72, 73 aggregating 27 acres to N. P. Soares for 158 dollars. Appraised valuations set at 10 dollars per acre with several applicants per parcel.
