Hawaii's plantation future and small farming challenge
The article forecasts Hawaii drifting from large sugar plantations to small holdings, citing Jared Smith. It contrasts Southern and Hawaiian conditions, warns of needing land law changes and incentives, and discusses possible Italian immigrant labor. It praises a ten thousand dollar survey for the Hilo breakwater and urges Hawaii’s citizens to support constructive federal action. The Maui balance remains in favor of continued development through pineapple, sisal, rubber and other ventures.
