Plans for Hilo Federal Building Drawn for Washington
Senators Mitchell Burton and Foster urged expediting a Hilo Federal Building. Architect Richley drafted plans to show local consensus and speed approval, detailing a 115 foot tower, lava rock walls, terra cotta trim, concrete foundation, steel framing, slate roof, and four main floors with a postoffice on the first level and a U.S. Court on the second. The design includes offices for appraiser, surveyor, land office, U.S. commissioner, postoffice facilities, and a grand jury room with weather bureau on the fourth floor.
