Public Excursion Tickets Sell On Weekends

Excursion tickets between all points are sold on Saturdays and Sundays, good returning until Monday noon. Commutation tickets offer twenty five rides between any two points, and thousand mile tickets are available at very low rates.

Bids Sought for 6 Room Teacher's Cottage in Hawokaa Hawaii

New Year House Warming at Onomea Plantations

A grand New Year’s Eve house warming at the Onomea sugar plantation home of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Moir drew 300 guests from Hilo and surrounding areas. The event featured a three-in-one dining and dancing hall, tropical decor, a Hawaiian flag, and a feast supervised by caterer D Lycurgus. Speakers praised Moir’s leadership, noting Onomea’s production rise from 7000 to 14000 tons of sugar, and Moir thanked neighbors as the celebration continued into the early hours with music, dancing, and a leap year dance for the ladies.

Iroquois Theatre Fire Tragedy Claims 562 Dead

Chicago reports the Iroquois theatre blaze during Mr Bluebeard on Randolph Street injuring many and killing 562. A faulty wiring sparked the fire, the asbestos curtain jammed, gas tanks exploded and exits became choked. Victims were mainly women and children, with many asphyxiated and trampled in the stampede. Actors escaped via stage doors as crowds overwhelmed police efforts.

Chicago reports 564 dead 1570 injured with 304 missing as jurors collapse from the scene. The asbestos curtain failure trapped fire on stage and a coroner's inquest is opened. President Roosevelt telegraphs sympathy to Mayor Harrison and nations send condolences.
