Convicted Postal Culprits Begin Serving Sentence
Washington reports Machen and Groff started serving their prison terms. August W. Machen former Rural Free Delivery superintendent was suspended when postal frauds surfaced. Beamer's Automobile Imported in Hilo Beefed up White Steam Car
Beamer, a renowned bicycle man from Hilo, imported a $2,000 White Steam Car by White Sewing Machine Co. The six horsepower, 1,400 pound four seater Dos o dos vehicle runs about 30 to 35 mph on level roads and uses roughly one gallon per 40 miles. Beamer tested a Kaumana road run to the six mile-post in about 25 minutes. Visitors registering at Volcano House this past week include J C Searle and family, W S Mclean, T W Sturgis and wives, Elton T Beckwith, W A Moore and wives, A A Moore and wives, and many others from across the mainland and Hawaii.

Death of an Old Kamaaina in Hilo
Mary Allan Pitman, daughter of early Hilo pioneer Benjamin Pitman, died last Saturday after a series of strokes and grippe. Born March 1841 in Honolulu, she married journalist Jack Ailan, who died about ten years ago. Survived by no husband or children, funeral held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Mrs. Arnold’s home with burial in Hilo Cemetery.
