The Hilo Tribune discusses Kau Republicans opposition to centralized schooling and governor appointments for district magistrates. It urges a cautious, phased shift to county government, preserving local control for two years while delaying major reforms to prevent a botched transition.
At a January meeting in Naalehu the Seventh precinct Republican club condemned Honolulu control of the Board of Education and endorsed leaving regulation to counties. They also favored electing district magistrates and voiced opposition to Old School politicking.
