Hillside Floods Prompt Widespread Pumping And Power Outage
Flooding from the rain forced the Road Department under Joseph Cas tellucio and Public Affairs Commissioner Anton A. Vit Jr. to pump out cellars across Hillside with six inches of water reported. Baker St. was the worst area with six cellars flooded while Beechwood Place had two cleared. Authorities noted earlier storm severity, tied to tides in the Arthur Kill and the Elizabeth River backing water toward the lowest areas.
