Mayor W William Di Buono announces Cooper Alloy on Ramsey Avenue has installed an air pollution control system for electric furnaces. The unit filters 9 240 cubic feet of gas per minute through ionized bags, resolving micro oxide particle collection after two years of research with Harry Cooper president Joseph Lessman plant manager and local officials.

Holiday Service Plans for New Conservative Congregation

Final arrangements are announced for the first High Holiday services of the Conservative Congregation of Hillside. Donald Weisman will conduct with ritual committee help at the War Memorial Building Liberty Avenue. Torahs borrowed from Temple B nai Israel and Temple Beth Shalom. Services run Rosh Hashanah September 25 26 27 and Yom Kippur October 4 5 with specific times.

Detective Duffy Funeral Saturday

Funeral services for Thomas J. Duffy 58 retired detective will be held Saturday morning at the Dany lel J. Leonard & Sons Home for Funerals 242 West Jersey Street Elizabeth Mass at St Catherine's Church at 10 a.m. Duffy died suddenly at his Hillside home of a heart attack. He served 32 years with the police department joining August 1 1925. He was born in Elizabeth and lived in Hillside most of his life. He was a volunteer fireman and member of Hillside Local 70 PBA Hillside Exempt Firemen's Association and a communicant of St Catherine's Church. Survivors include three brothers James John W and Martin and three sisters Mrs Edward Zirkel Mrs Martin Smith and Mrs Henry Kunz.

Local PTA project earns national recognition at Coolidge School

Miss Frances Ehman of Calvin Coolidge school devised a red paper window display to boost PTA membership. Each child drew a picture of a parent for a window, gaining praise from Mrs. Henry Merkel and the New Jersey PTA and National Congress.
