The Hillside Jaycees will run a nine day drive September 15 to 25 to gain new subscribers for The Hillside Times. Half of the $3.50 rate goes to the Jaycees from Hillside Times. Jaycees plan to contact over 3000 non subscribers to fund local charities.
Elks Picnic draws 300 attendees as Joseph Ram wins 12 of 15 districts against Henry Goldhor amid a fierce power struggle. Ram secures key Republican township committee votes while Goldhor loses heavily in most districts and faces ongoing county race tensions.
Reported thefts include two tires valued at 130 dollars from a Hillside Way bin and 80 dollars stolen from a Newark car on Winans Avenue. Residents faced property damage and attempted entries, while others dealt with a broken windshield, a clubhouse built by children, and a trash container fire. Officers also arrested several individuals on drug, weapons, and unrelated charges with bail set and court dates.
At Hillside Court on September 7 1967 multiple defendants pleaded guilty or were found guilty on driving related charges. Joseph Hicks was fined after a not guilty plea for driving without due care. Newark and Paterson residents faced fines for unlicensed or improper vehicle actions and failures to inspect or repair.
The Hillside PAL relying on public donations faces a $600 shortfall this year after raising about $600 annually through a Life subscription drive. The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association has banned Life magazine over Newark riots coverage, prompting PAL to seek alternative funding methods.

Steven L. Feriis, 25, of 50 20th St Newark, was captured at 3 10 p m Monday in the home of Mrs Elaine Jacobs 19 Valley View Rd by Capt George Helock. He is held without bail on breaking entering and larceny charges. Mrs Jacobs called police after hearing glass break in a cellar, and officers responding found four watches six rings a tie tack $14 75 and seven coins. Other officers included Deputy Chief George A Shelbourne and Patrolmen John Baum Emanuel Meyer and David Brindle.
Arnold Witte, Republican candidate for Township Committee, spoke at the Hillside Republican Club about constructive, pro growth goals. He criticized the Democratic primary for avoiding real issues and noted strong turnout despite no contest.
The Hillside Pop Warner Football League plans its annual Tag Day this Saturday September 16 at 10 am led by Mayor Ferrigno. About 100 youths will solicit local aid in uniforms to support players and cheerleaders.
Hillside hosts Kenilworth in the opening Pop Warner football game at Woodfield Stadium at 1 30 PM after a noon kickoff. Special Officer Roger Donat arrested Harry Shafer 19 of 663 Marker St Newark and a 17 year old juvenile at 7 50 p m Sunday on charges of having alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle. The car was parked in the lot at Center Bowl 1319 N Broad St where Donats employed Shafer released on 100 bond pending appearance
