Township Committee approves emergency resolution
After a long evening of debate the Township Committee voted 4 1 to pass an emergency resolution allowing a 14000 expenditure to draft plans for expansion of the Municipal Building. The money will be borrowed and repaid from next year’s budget under a Public Works program with 100 percent federal funding. Debate touched on possible road work and library and police facility needs. Public opposition cited federal overreach. the mayor and commissioners defended the plan as unemployment relief and essential municipal expansion.

Hillside society plans third historic walking tour
Hillside Historical Society announced plans for the third walking tour to be held Sunday October 10, winding along Williamson and Maple Avenues and Hillside Avenue east. The guides include unpublished data collected by Mrs. Jane E. Schorr and cover Conant Street and North Broad Street historic routes. The group may schedule a fourth walk along Hillside Avenue west from Maple and Liberty Avenue.

Vandals Strike Hillside On Labor Day Night
A Labor Day spree in Hillside left six cars damaged after vandals threw a rock through a window on 221 Hillside Ave and toppled a railroad tie onto Route 22 near Hilldale Place. John Skoras of Harrisburg reported two missing hubcaps. Ed Harris of Plainfield suffered the most damage with two bent rims and towing. Tim Roach helped by removing the tie and placing flares. police linked the rock and tie incidents.
