Washingtons Retreat Reenactment Plans Spread Through Area

Hillside and Union County communities prepare a Washingtons Retreat reenactment weekend. The Hillside Bicentennial Committee schedules a walk along the Upper Road from the Newark line to the Elizabeth boundary on December 4. Coordinating groups from Essex and Newark set a Sunday finish November 28 at Weequahie Park. An intermunicipal committee coordinates entries from Hillside Elizabeth Linden and Rahway with residents urged to volunteer in Revolutionary War costumes or simple tri corner hats. Registration forms will be issued.

Police Superiors settle contract in 16 percent raise

Police superiors including sergeants captains and deputy chiefs settled a contract last week. The 1976 agreement mirrors patrol terms with a 16 percent raise and the same benefits as those included in the PBA contract.

Two Supermarkets in Municipal Court Monday Night

Acme Markets was found guilty and fined 25 dollars for excess fat in ground beef. Shop Rite pled guilty, sentencing postponed for another ground beef sample. A Board of Health charge against Shop Rite for litter and weeds was dismissed by the court.

Bassano Invites Public to Informal Hillside Talk

Humanik elected chairman of Athletic Union Basketball Committee

Peor G. Humanik, superintendent of recreation in Hillside, was elected chairman of the Amateur Athletic Union basketball committee at the 89th annual conference in Phoenix Arizona on October 12. The New Jersey chapter includes 128 clubs and Humanik has served on the Olympic Basketball Committee as secretary and on the Olympic Committee Board of Governors. He has chaired the basketball committee for four years and leads in the union’s coordinated sanctioned tournaments.
