Civil Defense Course Trains Rutgers Citizens at Hillside
Hillside hosts a Civil Defense and Disaster Control course for Rutgers University at the municipal building from October 9 to October 30 to teach citizens how to draft an emergency operations plan. Completion may qualify Hillside for federal civil defense funds for equipment, with officials including Fire Chief Carmen Dill and Rutgers instructor Dr. M. Lee Blaustein among those participating.

Obituaries note Arturo Dominguez 64 of Cedar Street who died after a long illness at St. Barnabas Medical Center Livingston. A longtime Port Newark longshoreman, he leaves a wife Filomena Castanoa Dominguez a daughter Filomena Di Leo a son Arturo Jr a sister a brother and three grandchildren. He was a Hillside resident and member of Local 1235 ILA and the Oresano Club. Surviving relatives include several siblings from New Jersey and Argentina. Funeral arrangements by Growney Funeral Home. Also noted is the death of Joseph Pochopin 57 of Hillside who died October 14 at home. He was a maintenance man at Universal Manufacturing Co Irvington. He leaves a wife Margaret three daughters a son six brothers a sister and a number of grandchildren. Mass was held at St Catherine Church Hillside.
