Township Clerk Howard J Bley announced 2000 new voters since January 1 with 1100 registering in September. The Union County Board of Elections will finalize the rolls by printers, adding new voters and removing those who moved or died. Bley praised the courteous registration period and the smooth process.

A tool box worth 800 dollars, acetylene tanks, a welding torch and carrier valued at 200 dollars, a metal tool box with fine tools about 950 dollars, assorted mechanic tools 50 dollars, and a chain and block worth 125 dollars were taken.

Bartolotta Ross of 1280 North Broad Street was appointed to the Hillside Alcoholic Beverage Control Board by the Township Committee Tuesday night to fill the James F McCarthy vacancy. He will serve a three year term beginning December 13. King abstained. He was born in 1913 in Long Island and spent early childhood in Sicily.
Commissioner Henry Goldhor, chair of Hillside Public Safety Committee, reports progress after the new 1952 township administration studied long standing safety and welfare problems. Improvements include better street lighting, traffic lights at North Avenue and Riverside Drive near Pingry School, and planned curve relief on North Broad Street opposite Town Hall. An automobile survey and phased funding with state and Pingry School support are noted. further fixes await survey results and tax year funding.
