Hillside Ambulance Squad Celebrates First Anniversary

Hillside Ambulance Squad marked its first year with a Friday party hosted by Police Commissioner Henry Goldhor at his home. In a report by Captain Thomas Greene Jr. the squad noted 203 emergency calls, 34 heart cases, 90 hemorrhages, and 25 fractures, with day calls by the Fire Department and night calls by the volunteer unit.

Hillside High marching band to debut on Giants Bears telecast

The Hillside High School marching band will perform at halftime of the Giants Bears game at the Polo Grounds on Sunday November 22 with a nationwide hookup except within 50 miles. Under Leonard Strassman the group has appeared in Macy’s parade and at Yankee Stadium for fifteen years.

Seniors To Sit For Yearbook Photos At Hillside High

Hillside High announces 1954 senior yearbook portraits from November 9 to 12. Seniors will have six sittings including two cap and gown and four other portraits to choose for The Epoch. Academy Photographers will shoot at 239 Hollywood Avenue and students should submit candid and baby photographs for the feature section. The Epoch staff, with Jerry Tully and Judy Handshuh, is assembling the yearbook.
