Hillside Jaycees Advertise Souvenir Ad Journal

The Hillside Jaycees seek local merchant ads for a Souvenir Ad Journal to be handed out at the Eastern Union County Junior Miss Pageant. Vibrant contestant photos will fill the booklet, with ads arranged through Box 51 Hillside or Mary Kaleky at 241 3377. The pageant is set for Hillside High School auditorium on Saturday night December 2, 1967.

Police Nab Two In Hit And Run

Two patrolmen early Sunday apprehended drivers who fled accidents. Thomas Maletta admitted striking Rosina Nesko’s parked car on Winans Avenue after leaving the scene due to stomach trouble. Thaddeus Kotowski, chased on Salem Road, struck a traffic light stanchion on Liberty Avenue and also fled.

Progress Not Promises Ram Campaign Pledge by Ram

Democratic candidate Joseph Ram spoke at a Hillside pre election rally urging workers to tell voters of progress under the Hillside administration. He pledged strict enforcement of housing codes and zoning, opposition to new apartments per a 1966 referendum, maintaining high property values, and sustaining police and fire departments with top gear. Witte Sets Out Final Hill side Campaign Platform

Arnold Witte, Republican candidate, issued a final press release criticizing his opponent for not offering new ideas to improve Hillside. He compared the opposing party to Rip Van Winkle and listed proposals he supports, including ethics reform, lower taxes, a citizens advisory board, improved bus and rail services, river cleanup, a new post office, recreation and beautification efforts, a safety buffer zone, and enhanced municipal employee benefits. He urged minority representation on the Township Committee and urged voters to back his constructive alternative on election day.

Republican Township Committee candidate accuses Democrat opponent Joe Ram of false statements in Hillside race. Ram allegedly opposed the referendum on apartments and proposed high rise plans on Maple Ave between Bailey and Williamson. The candidate claims the opponent shifts positions quickly.

PFC Alan Stone Volunteers For Vietnam

PFC Alan Stone son of Mr and Mrs Albert Stone of 1229 Robert St recently completed basic training at Fort Dix. He volunteered for overseas duty in Vietnam after three months in Germany and has served six months with the 38th Infantry Division in the Mekong Delta taking part in Operations Rang-Dang Pair-Fact and Shelby. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge and is due to return April 23, 1968 after attendance at Hillside High School and work at Tommy's Chevron Station.
