Hillside floats win prize and police exam stir readers
Promotion examinations for police lieutenant were held May 4. Reactions blamed too much psychology and not enough formal qualification. A Hillside float won first prize in the most beautiful category at the Union County Centennial parade, pleasing committee co-chair Max Schleifer who arranged a reasonable float price. An early morning crash injured three, with Hillside Ambulance Squad member Pete Semchessen finding the coworkers among the injured, all treated at Newark Beth Israel Hospital where two remained detained.

A World Wide Airways Sikorsky S-51 made a forced landing on Pingry School’s athletic field last evening after excessive vibration. Pilot David Rosser and co-pilot William Glennie were uninjured as the craft was ferried to Hartford for repairs with Linden mechanics to inspect overhauls.

Mrs Mania Miner of Cranford, executive secretary of the Bristol-Myers Association of Bristol-Myers Products Division, was elected recording secretary of the Industrial Recreation Directors Association of New York. High School Clerk Reports $104 Theft
Miss Gail Brennan of 1599 Crescent Avenue, a clerk in the high school guidance office, reported the theft of $104 from her handbag on Friday. She said the money was in a purse that was taken while she was away in another part of the office. Brennan had cashed her paycheck a few hours earlier. She is the daughter of Raymond Brennan, a Reserve Police lieutenant.

Church Dedicates Stained Windows and Bibles
The Calvary Lutheran Church dedicated three stained glass windows Sunday in memory of Mary Lenag Eugene Zimmerman and John Hulinek by their families.
