Spectacular Memorial Day Parade Planned at Hillside
Memorial Day events will begin at 12 30 PM at Hillside High School. The program features Hillside High School Band St Lucy s Cadets and the Minuteman Colonial Fire Company among others as the parade honors war dead. Airman Robert H Kimmel from Hillside serves as a personal equipment specialist in the NEP Life Support Section supporting local flying crews in Southeast Asia. He attended Hillside High and plans to return home next April from overseas duty with his wife Jean Ste noW at 112 Salem Ave. His brother George serves in the Army at Fort Sill.

Police reported recovered items from several incidents on Hillside Week including a 200 pound Buddha statue and a 100 pound gargoyle with decorative plaques linked to a Japanese motif at Bernard Bernstein’s home on 13 Salem Ave. Damage to wiring cost about 1000 dollars. Others include a tire and rim theft on Route 22, damage to a monument at Elizabeth Monument Co, and a crash on Bloy St near Dameo residence.

Five House Breaks Reported as Cash and Items Stolen
The Defective Bureau today reports five weekend house breaks with nearly 500 dollars in cash and valuables stolen. Victims include Sanford Goldberg at 1625 Crescent Ave, Thomas Sabatino at 233 Hillside Ave, Jick Preston on 1523 Schley St, Mrs Ldna Lobar at 1314 Bright St, and David Kusoff at 1407 Orchard Ter. In one case a man was spotted in a home, escaping after being confronted.

Teenage Girls Report Attacks on Two Girls
Two 17 year old girls reported assaults in separate incidents. One was pushed and cursed on Buchanan Street near Bloy Street by four girls. The other was scratched and had a gold necklace torn and broken at the parish fair near the Church of Christ the King on Rutgers Avenue and Bloy Street.

Youngest hiker joins 100 on protest hike
A 6 year old named Edward T White Jr joined 99 other nature lovers on a 2 1/2 mile hike atop the Kittatinny Ridge to protest a plan to flood the Appalachian Trail and Sunfish Pond. He walked with his grandfather Theodore Sloboda. Edward is a pupil at Christ the King school and lives at 188 Fitzpatrick St.

Disorderly After Crash Arrest of David R Radzinski
David R Radzinski, 22, listed addresses at 17 Harden St Hillside and 127 E 3rd Ave Roselle, was arrested as a disorderly person after an automobile crash on Lehigh Ave Union. He allegedly fell asleep driving south and struck parked cars owned by Allied Erectors 45 High St Crawford and Wenzie Maurer 692 Lehigh Ave. Patrolman Nelson T Hall reported he became abusive. He was released pending appearance in Municipal Court on June 5.

Six Year Old Struck By Car Near School Crossing
Jonna Nuttolo six, of 1279 Hard Aye, escaped injury after being struck by a car driven by Dominick Calumon ad, 17, at 3 30 p m Thursday at Harder Hooker School rear. Patrolman Lawrence La Cara says he directed traffic at Gurd Ave and Silver Ave crossing and motioned the driver to permit the child to cross. the driver says he misunderstood the signal and struck the child.

New Police Scooter Unveiled At Hillside Local 70 Dinner
At the final dinner of Hillside Local 70 PBA the police department announced its first scooter to check overtime parkers. New police cars and radio equipment were shown as part of a broader upgrade. Retired Patrolman Harold McBride was introduced as former Local 70 president along with Deputy Chief Harry Schuetzle who will retire this year.
