Cooper Honored In Hillside Rotary This Is Your Life Program
Presley Harry A. Cooper was the guest of honor at a Hillside Rotary Club program styled like This Is Your Life held on April 26. Sidney Silverstein wrote the script and introduced Cooper who led the event. Cooper, born July 5 1898 in Bayonne, recounted early life and business ventures from Sweet Foundry Co to Cooper Alloy Foundry Co. in Elizabeth. He spoke of challenges during the downturn, a pivotal Best Foods order in 1934, and the growth of his enterprises. He and wife Florence Selman have two sons Herbert and Stuart and he remains active in Temple Israel of the Oranges.

Student Teacher Team To Receive Freedoms Award
Valley Forge Pennsylvania May 5 seventy eight students from Hillside High School Valley Forge and other schools are named for the Freedoms Foundation award in a national program. The group will tour Washington Philadelphia and Valley Forge with seminars on citizenship and the American system. Each school receives a George Washington honor medal and a freedom library.

A survey by Congress member Harrison Williams shows Hillside residents oppose the proposed Army cutback by a ratio of 44 to 1. The poll also covers opinions on reciprocal trade, Alaska statehood, postal wage raises, minimum wage, immigration policy, Point Four aid, universal military training, fair employment, United Nations, and across the board income tax cuts with varied support levels.

Three Car Crash Injures 3 Drivers in New Jersey
A three car collision on Route 22 during heavy rain injured three motorists. Julia Rosado 30 of New York City jumped the center line and hit Virgil E Elwood 32 of Union and his rear struck by Meyer A Goldstein 42 of Union. Rosado was hospitalized. Elwood and Goldstein treated for injuries and shock. Traffic delayed about 30 minutes.

Garbage bids rejected by township committee
Four bids for disposing of the township garbage were rejected and will be readvertised for June 7 at 9 pm.
