Library Receives Gift of Books for New Municipal Library

The War Memorial Building housed the volumes donated by Henry Grohl and Harry Weinstein of the Legion. The Legion agreed to transfer the books to the library once the new Municipal Building and library were finished. Miss Lottie Smolenski, head librarian, identified works on American and English literature world affairs and fiction and assured the donors the volumes would enhance the library.

Youth Gang Arrests In Thefts And Threats Involving Juveniles

Six youths aged 11 to 15 were arrested on theft and threats charges after two incidents in one week. Police, led by Det Lt. Charles Grant, traced crimes from a break in at Sunrise Dairies to thefts from Hillside Lanes and lockers at a local high school. Rabies Vaccination for Dogs Scheduled Next Week

The Board of Health announced free rabies shots for dogs to be given over three days next week. On Wednesday May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the maintenance garage Hillside avenue, on Friday May 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the rear garage of the old Town Hall 1284 North Broad street, and on Saturday May 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Road Department Garage Central avenue.

Ground Breaking At First Baptist Building

The First Baptist Church broke ground for a new educational building attached to the church. Hillside Kiwanis Club won the district banner for outstanding club for the third straight year. Henry H. Nussbaum presented the award to Dr Bernard Senner and an honorable mention ribbon. Emanuel Reiter received a service citation, and Joseph Gally gave a $25 service award from the Key Club convention in Asbury Park for crippled children work.

Braille Demonstration For Lions Club In Elizabethtown

Miss Ethel Wolf of the Elizabethtown Red Cross explained Braille to the Hillside Lions at Townley’s Union. She displayed a Braille typewriter and playing cards. Dr Walter Krumbiegel introduced her. Plans were made for Ladies Night on May 29 with a cocktail party at the Merkle home Windsor Drive Springfield.

X rays in Hillside May 8 by Tuberculosis Unit

The Union County Tuberculosis League portable unit visits Hillside May 8 at the Hillside Municipal Building from 2 to 4 and 6 30 to 9 p.m. Adults may receive a chest x ray for 150. Dr Gerson L Ram oversees arrangements. Over 2700 chest x rays have been given in 12 communities already visited.
