Elizabeth residents welcomed the end of a four day postal strike as letter carriers and clerks returned to work after a branch vote. The walkout halted mail delivery and slowed business while NY officials faced questions from Floyd Dwyer and local residents about X rays, insurance documents, and police bids.

Hurden St Girl Struck By Car Near Home

An eight year old girl, Susan Karl of 19 Hurden Street, was hit by a car driven by Frank R. Buzar of 724 Arnold Place Union on Hurden Street near her home. Police say she darted from between parked cars. she was taken to Memorial General Hospital Union for injuries to her left hip.

Hillside Planning Law Day led by former clerk Nulton

Free German Measles Vaccine Clinic To Run In Hillside

Townspeople ages one to ten can receive rubella vaccine at a Sunday clinic from noon to 4 p.m. at the PAL Building Hillside Ave. Local physicians and nurses volunteer to administer 1200 doses at no cost. Written parental consent required. The program aims to curb rubella related birth defects and follows guidance from the State Health Department.

Five Arrested For Drugs In Newark Area Incident

Four youths and a girl were arrested last weekend on charges of drug influence and narcotics paraphernalia possession. Patrolmen Kenneth Vogel and John Alyward reported arrests on Leslie Street Sunday night at 7 30. The group includes Mary A. Davis 19 of 32 Tappen SC Avenel Patrick F. GOP Club Backs Senior Housing in Hillside

The Hillside Republican Club announced support for senior citizen housing by forming a committee to draft resolutions. President Jack Murphy named Anton Vit and John Batie as chairman and co chair to prepare the resolutions. The club says Hillside seniors need and deserve a home, and the housing will be strictly for seniors.

Hillside area churches announce a four day Easter observance starting Holy Thursday with 8 p.m. communion, Good Friday services, and multiple Easter Sunday worships.
