Civil Defense Drill Set for Friday March 13
The Civil Defense Council will hold its first night time drill Friday evening March 13 led by Commissioner John M. Malone. All groups will participate and several incidents are arranged to demonstrate alert procedures printed on township alert cards. Dr Ralph A. Davis and Harold Keddie Mayer, both Union residents, confessed to breaking into Hillside High School on December 30 between 9 and 10 p.m. and stealing musical instruments and a movie projector valued at 990 dollars. All county and municipal chair men co chairmen and treasurers of the 1953 Heart Appeal drive for 44850 have been invited to attend a report session at 8 pm Thursday March 19 at the Elizabeth Carteret Hotel Elizabeth by Mrs Helen M Glaeser Union County Heart Association chairman of the drive. Each chairman is requested to submit a written report of the overall campaign conducted including how the money was raised special events suggestions or criticisms and list of volunteers who aided in the drive. The treasurers from each community also will submit their reports to March 15.

Study Of Industry Waste And New Health Ordinances
Plumbing Inspector Benjamin T. Summer to study industrial waste discharges into the sanitary sewer and propose an ordinance. He will urge plants with air conditioning units to redirect wastewater, and assess chemical discharges as dangerous. The board introduced first readings for a retail food licensing ordinance and an air pollution ordinance with hearings on April 14. Rabies vaccinations for dogs are set for May 20 to 23 at the Municipal Building and Garage.
