Parade Tribute To War Veterans Held In City

A parade honoring war veterans moved through the city Monday with a new lineup of marchers, wreaths placed at the War Memorial and Russell Looker Park on Merite Avenue, and a shortened program to prevent traffic delays. Diploma for Nurse School Grad Draws 130 Seniors

Elaine Theresa Smith and 129 others will graduate Sunday from St Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing Elizabeth at 3 p.m. in St Marys Church. Rt Rev Msgr John Kiernan will present diplomas. Two Hillside Girls Injured Crossing Street

Two Hillside girls were injured last Thursday evening when struck by a car at the intersection of Liberty and Winans avenues. Gail Labowitch, 9, of 1519 Liberty Avenue sustained contusions and abrasions of the left leg. Susan Feldman, 10, of 288 Dover Avenue, suffered abrasions of both elbows and legs. The car was operated by Phil Last, 66, of 1492 Highland Avenue, traveling west on Winans Avenue and making a left turn. The girls were taken to Dr. Joseph Peyser’s office for treatment. A summons was issued to the driver for failure to yield to pedestrians.

Vircompany 2 Opens New Building and City Services

The first municipal department in the new quarters is Fare Company No 2, occupying the Hillside building with staffing by Tyemon under Deputy Chief Wilian P Hamilton. Safety Awards To Hillside Plants At Dinner

Certificates of merit for perfect safety records in the first quarter of 1955 were awarded to Hillside firms at a dinner in the Elizabeth Carteret Hotel Elizabeth. The honors were presented by Carl Holderman Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor and Industry.
