Hillside fights Route 78 realignments with Newark groups

Hillside officials and local committees unite to oppose Newark backed Route 78 realignments seen as a threat to municipal growth. The Planning Board and Republican and Democratic clubs condemn proposed shifts, urging support for Commissioner Palmer's plan and opposing jetport noise and pollution impacts.

Hillside Plans Fight On Route 78 Alternate

Hillside officials held a second emergency meeting to oppose Route 78 alternates backed by Mayor Caplin and the Weequahic Community Council Newark. Mayor Disehler named James Macwithey as advisor. The Hillside Industrial Association pledged to mobilize officials and residents, with a mass meeting set for May 31 at the Municipal Building and circulars mailed townwide. The mayor has spoken with Senator Williams and Assemblyman Stamler to seek aid.

Two Women Robbed At Cemetery In Harrisburg Area

A mother and her daughter, visiting Eversween Cemetery to inspect a plot, were robbed of about 1200 dollars and a diamond ring after leaving handbags in their station wagon. Police investigated two men seen nearby, one in a heavy gray coat and one wearing glasses, with the family linked to the Harrisburg area.

Cat Attacks Young Woman at Home and Police Kill Cat

Miss Elizabeth Smith twenty of 224 Pennsylvania avenue was bitten and scratched on both arms and legs by a male gray striped cat in the basement of her home. The cat lunged at her father William and forced him to retreat upstairs as police arrived. Patrolman John Senatore trapped the animal with a rope noose and dragged it outside where it was destroyed.
