Hillside Cuts Crime 15 Percent In State Report
State Attorney General George F. Kugler Jr. releases Uniform Crime Reports showing Hillside reducing its total crime index from 1968 to 1969 by about 15 percent. The township logged 635 total crimes in 1968 versus 545 in 1969, with notable drops in breaking and entering from 295 to 192 and overall larcenies from 375 to 361.

Lute Share Dies A Longtime Hillside Servant
Lute Share 62 longtime Hillside resident and public servant died Saturday night at Irvington General Hospital after a long illness. A Democrat, he served as Fire Commissioner, mayor in 1968, and on the Board of Education, Recreation Commission, and various town committees. Survived by wife Freda Perl-Tan, two sons, siblings, and three grandchildren. Arrangements by Suburban Chapel.

Missing Man From Emery Manor Nursing Home
Madison Township police seek Vendin Forte of Hillside who left Emery Manor Nursing Home on June 21. Forte, bald and 120 pounds at five feet three inches, had no money. He was wearing slacks and a shirt when he vanished around 9 am. His son Vincent, of 1290 Baker, reported him missing. The incident follows vacancies created by resignations and is described as unprecedented for the township since its 1913 organization.
