Hillside State Bank Names New Staff Switchboard Operator
New employee Loretta Messick, 1200 Liberty Ave, joins Hillside State Bank as switchboard operator. She brings prior work from two plants and a Newark bank. Messick, married with six children and ten grandchildren, praised the bank’s modern keysite switchboard handling 30 trunk lines and 50 extensions. She attends Christ the King Church. Hillside celebrates its 100th year this year. Her grandfathers Dr. George L. Rice and Pappy McKinny, Union Army veteran, once heard Lincoln at Gettysburg.

Public Service Junior Chef Classes in New Jersey
Public Service Electric and Gas will run free Junior Chef classes in Lamp Making and cookery at home service centers across its territory during July and August. Classes are led by home service advisers with a final Graduation Day and a Junior Chef Certificate. A poster contest on Electrical Safety will award a DIY kit and ribbon, with displays at 80 Park Place, Newark. Elizabeth office classes run August 13 to 20, with a lamp making session on August 27.

The industrial division of the United Fund of Eastern Union County is led by Cecil S. Morris, assistant general manager at The Singer Manufacturing Co. plant, and Walter A. Teetsel, former president of IBEW Local 1068, AFL CIO. They supervise solicitation in Elizabeth, Hillside, Linden, Roselle, and Roselle Park, raising about two thirds of the campaign total. Morris, a Scotch Plains resident, joined Singer two years ago as plant controller after time with Booz Allen & Hamilton. Teetsel, a Linden resident, is a lead inspector at Thomas & Betts Co. and serves on multiple boards and councils.

Kept Pledge Claim From Hillside Homeowners Group

The Kenilworth and Hillside Lions Clubs co hosted a July 13 1963 picnic at Millers Grove Kenilworth for 40 blind members from the Union County Association For The Blind.
