New Jersey Shareowners Grow as Census Records 1962 Rise

New Jersey’s shareowners reach 902,000 or 5.3 percent of the national total as the 1962 Census of Shareowners shows a state rise of 277,000 since 1959. The survey notes 17 million Americans own shares, with 1 in 7 New Jersey residents participating, dividends totaling 503 million in 1961, and the Middle Atlantic region leading in ownership. The data also highlights where owners live, with growth in smaller communities and metropolitan centers. A new Catholic high school for 1,400 boys is planned in Montvale, with St. Joseph’s Regional High School opening for 800 freshmen and sophomores in 1963 under the Xaverian Brothers. The Archdiocese’s seven high schools and other facilities are funded by a campaign that has raised 13.5 million in cash on pledges over 31 million. A separate 5,000 grant supports organizational work for New Jersey Educational Television.
