No Fireworks For July 4 In Hillside Due To Insurance Gap

Hillside will skip the traditional July 4 fireworks at Conant Street park after the International Fireworks Company of North Bergen could not secure $300 000 liability coverage required by the township and county park commission. The company raised only $50 000, and township officials warned that the town’s policy likely would not cover the display. Mayor Alexander Menza said it is too late to arrange a substitute. Also notes include a Planning board appointment for Saul Schreier to replace Seymour Bateman, and ordinances on park fencing and a Public Works employee rules update with second reading set for July 15.
