Fossil Footprint Found by Former Hill Side Resident

Richard Margolis, a 26 year old chemist for Hoffman La Roche, found a three toed footprint on red sandstone in Houdaille Quarry on the Clifton Montclair Little Falls border. Two Montclair State College professors identified the print as Anchisaurapus Sillimani, dating to the late Triassic over 180 million years ago. The 5 inch print measures about five inches long with a central toe and two side toes, suggesting a forerunner of Tyrannosaurus. Margolis said the fossil is among the area’s outstanding specimens and the first dinosaur print found there.
