Leslie Barnes former executive director of the National Air Transport Coordinating Committee told Hillside Rotary Club that about 9 percent of Newark Airport flights now head over Hillside versus 50 percent before the airport closure. Arch Armstrong of Newark Airport attended. Barnes noted only eleven complaints since November 16 and explained a new preferential runway system routes planes over water and open areas to reduce disturbance. He said training flights moved from Newark total around 800 monthly and outlined conditions limiting low flights over populated areas including wind over 15 mph, precipitation on runways, or ceilings below 1 000 feet. The club plans a meeting with Union Club on February 10 to hear former Secretary Philip Lovejoy. February 8 meeting was canceled.
