In Hillside the township committee reorganized with Democrats in control as Robert G Kirkpatrick became mayor. A letter from a Hillside taxpayer attacked proposed tax increases amid a broader tax tally list, while officials stressed cooperation to advance 1952 goals.
The township names yearlong appointments for the mayor aided committees with Mil ton B. Conford chairing the Finance panel and Raymond R. King leading Public Safety. Henry Goldhor chairs Public Affairs with Malone on Recreation and Conford on Roads. Joint Sewer Meeting rep Goldhor. veterans affairs panel to Kirkpatrick and Conford. depositories Hillside National Bank and Union County Trust. Auditors Wright, Long & Co. at 4500. Hess to handle insurance and bonds.
The Park Commission completed the purchase of 48 acres ending years of negotiations. The parcel bounded by Lehigh Valley Railroad Conant Street Woodfield Stadium and Pipgry School lands lies near Warinanco Park. Representatives W Rich mond Tracy and David Armstrong signed for the commission while Robert W Kean Uri spoke for Kean interests. The commission also holds title to 5 acres along the Elizabeth River in Hillside and Union and has asked the Board of Freeholders for capital funds to begin development this year.
Mrs Harrington Mattey of 19 Hartford Street Newark told police her purse containing 10 dollars and a watch was snatched at about 8 p m in front of 1610 Summit Avenue. The thief described as a heavy set youth about 18 or 19 in a dark suit escaped by jumping a fence and slipping down a neighboring driveway.
A public forum on ambulance operation and transport of contagious disease cases will be held after the Board of Health meeting on Tuesday January 8 at 8 pm in the Municipal Building. Health Officer Samuel M. Jowitt announced the plan yesterday.
