To Fete Zuckerman Abraham Zuckerman of Hillside will be honored by Sinai Tovath Chaim at a testimonial dinner on Saturday March 3 at Maplewood Manor. Zuckerman longtime Sinai Board of Trustees member and philanthropic leader, noted for support of religious institutes and Israel. He is a prominent New Jersey builder of homes and garden apartments, residing at 186 Surrey Road with wife Millie and son Wayne. A married daughter Mrs Bernard Sklar lives in Verona, another daughter Ruth is a freshman at Syracuse University.

FHA Discloses Couple In Fraud

The Federal Housing Authority indicted Hillside couple Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bomwell and three associates for a fraud scheme linked to six Newark area properties. They allegedly bought these homes for 35,650 and resold them for 410,700 with government mortgage guarantees, dating the activity to February 1970 and involving fraudulent documents to secure FHA backing.

Arrest Youths On Drug Charge

Four town youths were arrested Wednesday night in a raid on a teenager’s home for possession of marijuana and hashish. Bail was set at 1000 dollars for Kevin Harris and Gary M. Kolski, both 18, with two 17 year olds released to parents pending juvenile action. Detectives Messano Milburn and Cann led the operation.

Budget In Committee For Thirty Day Study Budget

Township Commissioners began a thirty day study of the Board of Education budget after its February 9 defeat. A February 22 meeting will hear budget-cut recommendations and, if the Board rejects the revised plan, the issue moves to the State Board of Education for review. If accepted locally, no state review is needed. Teachers seek higher salaries and may go to Trenton for fact finding if negotiations fail.

Attermann Named To Head Hillside Board of Education

Al Attermann was unanimously chosen to succeed Peter Humank as Hillside Board of Education president for 1971. Alfred J. Lordi was elected vice president. Lordi, a Newark teacher, succeeds Jack Valenti who was defeated last Tuesday. Three new members Robert Parker Marie Beale and Peter A Ferrigno took oath for three year terms. Prolonged terms ended for Edward Zipf Conrad Cammarota and Valenti with plaques of appreciation. The Hillside Times publisher Sidney Silverstein received a plaque for community service and education. The board set meetings for the second Wednesday each month and designated the Hillside Times and The Daily Journal as official publications and depositories for school funds. A 1971-72 committee slate includes finance education and public relations with members listed.

NHS Induction Set At Hillside High For 37 Members

The Hillside High School National Honor Society will induct 37 members on Monday at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Inductees were chosen for character, scholarship, leadership and service. Officers are Edmund Topslow president, Robert Peyser vice president, Serena Fox secretary, Mona Gelman treasurer. A reception in the school cafeteria will follow, hosted by three staff wives.

Police Seek Link In Gangland Deaths

Police pursue a link between the North Arlington killing of Candidae Trueba and other gangland incidents. Jonn P.
