Hillside's oldest resident Mr. James W. Chadwick celebrates his 104th birthday with a family gathering at his daughter Edith Johnson's home at 136 Fairbanks Street. Born in Keyport on St. Valentine's Day 1859, he worked as an oiler on the Lackawanna Ferry in Hoboken before retiring 32 years ago. He credits his long life to moderation, a happy marriage, and devoted children, and he has seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and four adoptive great grandchildren.

45th Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Vincent Di Buono Celebrated
Mr Di Buono age 69 and Mrs Di Buono 63 celebrated 45 years of marriage on February 10 with a Sunday afternoon dinner at Blue Shutters Inn Union and a reception at their daughter Angela Koukos’s home. Their children, Magistrate V William Di Buono and Mrs Frank Barle of Hillside and Mrs George Koukos of Union, hosted. They have two other sons Anthony Caldwell and Carol Di Buono. ten grandchildren. Born in Italy they came to the United States in 1915 and 1917 respectively, married in 1918 at St Catherine of Sienna Church in New York City. They later settled in New Jersey and have remained for 36 years. Mr Di Buono a World War I veteran, operated businesses in Newark and Westfield before retiring to Union. He is active in the Society of Maria SS Del Buoncammino in New York and New Jersey and has served as its President for eight years.
