Residents will vote Tuesday February 10 on two school budget items totaling 3 198 913 88 and three seats on the Board of Education Incumbents Bierman Attermann and Lordi seek re election while Eben Geraci and Lehner run for the three open seats The school budget year 1970 71 totals 8 857 028 88 up 472 390 75 with tax rate up about 32 points Negotiations on teacher salaries resume at 4 p m today after a budget vote without an agreement on salaries and a possible second referendum if the final funds exceed the approved amount Page 1 calls for salaries 2 465 950 and notes PTA turnout and the year end surplus of 66 338 plus five new teachers and other spending factors

Bierman Praises Six Year Board of Education Record

Seymour Moe Bierman, candidate for re election to the Board of Education, reviewed six years of board accomplishments at a home meeting. He cited modular scheduling, expanded school nursing, new superintendent and high school leadership, stronger guidance counseling, and a new trade and industry program in Union County. He highlighted snow removal equipment, better lighting, and window replacement projects, plus rebuilt tennis courts, a wrestling mat, and varsity bowling as achieved during his tenure.

Hillside Week Meeting Calls Homecoming Plans

Hillside week opens with a meeting of Mrs. Harold Ragoff’s committee at Temple Shomrei Torah on Sunday February 8 at 10 30 to plan the homecoming for College Youth of the Temple. Entertained: Buttondowns from Pingry School performed for Hillside Rotary with Antoine duBourg directing and Theodore Mayhew arranging the program. Blue Ribbon Inn plans its third annual St Valentine’s Day Dance February 14 with Spanky Plus Two. Hillside Industrial Association board and officers set noon Wednesday at College Inn. Police log notes break in at Interstate Iron Works and several auto incidents including thefts entries and damage. Three Newark juveniles were apprehended for truancy and trespassing and released to parents.

Newark State College student Hela Yungstot si Alitadte 30 earns Miss New Jersey Flower and Garden Show 1970 crown. She will reign at Morristown Armory from April 3 to 9 amid spring pageantry alongside the 1970 Princess. Yungst also gathers titles as Miss Newark State College and Glamour Top Ten College Girl, with a busy schedule of music, theater, charm instruction, and sports.

New Slant on News Girls Visit Township Committee

Twenty two Girl Scouts from Troops 216 and 434 at Christ the King School attended the Township Committee meeting Tuesday evening as part of their Active Citizenship badge. Leaders Mrs. Frank Heim and Mrs. Peter Evanik accompanied them. During adjournment the group asked questions and noted the proceedings as part of their civic lesson. One girl quipped to the press table about seeing “lady presses.”

Petition Urges Ban on Heavy Trucks on Long Ave

Residents of Long Avenue press township committee to ban trucks over five thousand pounds and restrict parking to the north side. The committee temporarily moved trucks off the street while seeking an immediate solution. Roger Donat led the 325 petitioners citing thirty nine accidents in fifteen months with nineteen from parked trucks. Cahill Electronics to relocate trucks to municipal pool lot for two weeks as interim measure. Continued on Page 2.
