Police Reject Offers Impasse Reached in Hillside Police Contract Talks
Negotiations between Hillside Township and Local 70 PBA reached an impasse on December 7 1970. PBA filed a Notice of Impasse with the Public Employers Relations Commission for mediation as committee members proposed only a 400 dollar across the board increase. The union sought higher pay and benefits including a 2000 dollar increase a 5 and 3 work week overtime pay time off holidays shifts clothing and medical plans and a written contract. The talks collapsed after police commissioner Marvin Corwick and Alex Menza presented limited offers and questioned the union in a rapid reading.
