The Union County Junior Miss Pageant will be held Saturday December 3 at 7 30 pm in Hillside High School. Contestants hail from Benedictine Academy Cranford Elizabeth Hillside Mother Seton Plainfield Rahway Union and Westfield high schools with Taana Gardner representing Westfield and Josephine Zappulla among others. Mr Charles Knight serves as master of ceremonies and Donna Babbs directs choreography as Hillside Jaycees sponsor this event with the winner advancing to Cherry Hill for the state finals.

Hillside police foil robbery and spree of crime
Hillside officer Jeffrey Stier interrupted a seven man robbery at Tobin's Appliance on Liberty Ave arresting five suspects on scene while Patrolman Vincent De Maio and John Bercaw captured two more hiding in a bathroom. All suspects were Newark residents aged 15 to 26. The two getaway cars were reported stolen. In separate incidents over the holiday weekend Hillside saw two assaults and other crimes including a pigeon theft valued at 1000 dollars and a shotgun robbery at Hess Station.
