Tigers Sign Eddie Kovac From Hillside High School
Eddie Kovac of Hillside Ave Hillside was signed by the Detroit Tigers for an undisclosed sum. The 17 year old first baseman stood 2 inches tall and weighed 210 pounds and played three years of varsity baseball at Hillside High School earning praise for his glove work. He reported to the Tigers Jamestown New York spring training in the Class A New York Pennsylvannia loop after discussing options with the New York Yankees. His mother says he breathes baseball constantly and graduated Hillside High School in June.

Hillside Schools to Open September 9 With Orientation Week
Dr Wayne I Branom announces Hillside Public Schools open Thursday September 9 at regular times except Hillside High which starts at 8 20 AM and ends 2 59 PM. New pupils must register August 1 from 9 AM to 12 noon. Kindergarten requires age five by September 81 1965 and first grade age six by December 31 1965. Orientation for ninth grade and new pupils is September 6 at 8 PM in the high school auditorium.

Former Hillside treasurer faces September 17 sentence
William Ostermiller of 1092 Salem Ave former Hillside financial official will be sentenced September 17 in Union County Court. He pleaded guilty to embezzling 53 713 dollars in municipal funds this past week before Judge Cheater L Waidenburner. Bail remains 15 000 dollars. Ostermiller 47 waived trial by jury through attorney Louis Winetsky of Linden. He was suspended last December as township treasurer and custodian of school moneys after discrepancies were found. Accused of embezzling 2 769 from township funds 917 from the municipal pool funds and 50 027 from the Board of Education. Discrepancies date back to 1958. An August 30 meeting was scheduled to discuss deferral terms as an agreement was reached to postpone actions.
