Hillside will hold its annual preseason Little League parade on Saturday May 1 starting 9 30 AM from George Washington school playground. Marchers include Little League teams Ambu lance Squad Police and Fire Departments Civil Defense High School Band Hillside Elks PAL and officials. Fire damages War Memorial Building from basement locker blaze
A Saturday fire in a paint storage locker in the basement of the War Veterans Memorial Building caused extensive smoke damage to the building near the Municipal Building. Deputy Chief Intra bartolo said the fire was confined to the locker, but smoke filled the second and main floors. firemen cut a roof hole and broke windows to vent smoke. A resident reported the blaze around 2 20 PM. painters had left about 30 minutes earlier. Weekly bingo games were canceled until further notice.
