Two suspects were arrested after a Tuesday night burglary at Herbert Gheviol Motors in Hillside. Alfred Baldassarre and Raymond Freda face breaking and entering charges as Essex County Park Police and Hillside officers pursued them from the shop to Meeker Avenue and through Weequahic Park. Police found burglary tools and a Chevrolet stockroom empty handed, with a car linked to the crime found on Williamson Avenue. A Hillside Kiwanis Club event at Hillside High drew more than 900 attendees. The North Essex Section piano quartet performed under Mrs Irwin Brainen with eight women on four grand pianos. Dols J Hess introduced Brainen and Dr Milton Lilien. The Ogden Nash Carnival of the Animals was narrated by Mrs Vera Goodman. Pupils Help Save Fifty Horses From Summit Stable Fire
Six eighth grade students and teacher assisted in rescuing fifty horses from a blaze that leveled Watchung Stables on Glenside Avenue Summit Monday afternoon. Fire started in a hayloft around 1 30 pm and spread rapidly. The students and Thom as J Reilly helped move horses to safety while the fire raged.
