Board names new officers at reorganization meeting

John Schierer reports Anthony Dee was named president of the Board of Education and Ed Capasso vice president at the reorganization meeting held last Wednesday night at Calvin Coolidge School. Both were unanimously approved. Capasso faced opposition earlier from Bob Conway before a second ballot secured Capasso. Menza seeks statewide ban on steeljaw traps in NJ

State Senator Alexander J. Menza introduces legislation to ban the steel jaw leghold trap and all trapping devices not designed to painfully capture or instantly kill fur bearing animals across New Jersey. Violations carry fines up to 500 dollars and possible imprisonment. under-16s would need close supervision to trap.

Barry Segal to Manage Hillside Pool for 1977 Season

Barry Segal is named Pool Manager for the 1977 Hillside season by Hillside Community Pool Board of Swimming Pool Commissioners chair Louis T. German. Segal, a Livingston educator and former Spring Garden Country Club general manager, brings extensive experience in camp operation, lifeguard programs, and athletic coaching to ensure a productive summer.

Mayor and PBA Chief clash over parity in Hillside

Hillside mayor Vincent Baldassano and PBA president Michael Galloway clashed over statements about parity between the police and fire departments. PERC found good faith bargaining and no ruling on legality. the mayor cited a letter from Town attorney Parsonnel. At a special meeting, the town moved to deposit rebate monies, buy a copier, and repair the pool. Head librarian Lottie Smolenski opposed new library plans. Baldassano defended expansion. Vacancies announced for Administrative Analyst, Clerk-Typist, and Maintenance Foreman. Baldassano voiced support for the Hillside-Linden All-Stars in the national street hockey championship.
