PAL Fund Drive Starts Next Sunday for Community Share
George Liss and Leonard Cohen announce the first annual PAL fund drive running April 16 to 23 to raise funds for the community share of the building and for operations. A kick-off parade is set for April 15, with a party at College Inn on April 23 for workers. Proceeds support a $19,000 community share plus ongoing maintenance. District leaders include Mrs. Alois J. Stier, Jack G. Valent, Miss Dorothy Grorger, and others. About 125 volunteers have signed up. 200 posters and 125 canisters have been distributed. A North Broad banner will fly after a proclamation naming Hillside PAL Week by Mayor Louis A. Dischler. The PAL Girls plan a Moon Over Hawaii dance at 8 pm on April 15, with two orchestras and a vocal group.

Friday night the PAL Auxiliary received a charter shield bearing the names of PAT Auxiliary charter members. The shield by Mr. Studney will be framed and hung at the PAD Building 274 Hillside avenue. A card party is planned May 1 at the building with Marion Holtham as chairwoman and Mrs. Paul Kifner in charge of refreshments. A white elephant sale is set for June with Charlotte Skilton assisting and other committee members named.

Recreation Board Aide Dismissed After Civil Service Hearing
Peter Baron longtime keeper for the Recreation Commission was dismissed after a five hour Civil Service hearing the first of its kind here. Charges across four categories were upheld in part by the board led by Dorothy Disotell with Marvin Goldberg Sanford Goldbreg Armand Addont zio and Thomas Greene. The board found Baron absent without leave failed to obey instructions and conducted himself in a manner undermining an employee.
