All-Steel Dream Boat Nears Launch By Hobbyist Joe Ripianzi

Joseph P. Ripianzi, 51, of 1135 St Louis Ave, aims to launch an all-steel trunk cabin cruiser he built in his backyard by August after nearly five years. The 18-ton craft is 40 feet long, 12 feet high, 12 and a half feet wide, forged from 1/4 inch welded steel plate with twin Navy surplus diesel engines and water tanks. He started in October 1957, estimated cost around $7,000 plus his time, and plans to move it to water with a heavy equipment truck. Ripianzi, a former Standard Oil tanker crewman and Bell Telephone Laboratories watch engineer, hopes vacations aboard await.

Jewish Vets Install Officers at Helderman-Rosenwasser Post

JWV Post 573 will install officers Monday at Hall 4 North Broad Street. Maurice Lunde of Hillside to serve a second term as Commander. Also to be installed are Paul Blum Irvington senior vice commander Herbert Larwin Orange junior vice commander Lew Asch Newark judge advocate. Milton Walder West Orange National Executive Committeeman will be the guest speaker.

Move For United Jetport Backing

The Hillside Community Orchestra under Mr. Herman Holzman will present its annual Spring Concert Thursday April 12 at Hillside High School auditorium Liberty Ave at 8 30 p.m. The program includes Chopin Scherzo in B Flat Minor performed by Eugene Krautblatt. The concert features numerous family units among the musicians and Miss Margaret Walsh lyric soprano. A resolution urging New Jersey municipalities to support two Assembly bills creating an airport authority and a jet air terminal for the future in Burlington County was adopted by the Township Committee. Several promotions occurred in the Police and Fire Departments and road resurfacing and lighting improvements were approved. The committee opposed a fare increase for Public Service Coordinated Transport and authorized new lighting.

Student Winner In Time Contest

Harvey Kleppel, a student in Mr. James Tajgia's Hillside NJ High School class, has been named a winner in TIME magazine's 26th annual Current Affairs Contest. Top scorers from about 4,000 schools receive a certificate and a globe or a book.

PAL Benefit At Mayfair Monday

Hillside PAL Auxiliary hosts a Monday Mayfair Theater benefit featuring Sergeants Three to raise funds for youth programs. PAL director Detective Alois J. Stier reports juvenile delinquency calls have dropped and outlines activities including volleyball and softball for youths, rifle team, weight lifting, roller skating, and a planned trip to Olympic Park. Two fundraisers are planned, including a boxing show.

Two Advanced In Police Banks Benefit Card Party

Proceeds from two events on May 11 and May 14 will fund operational expenses. Detective Stier notes a $400 monthly building opening cost must be met via public subscription. Mrs. N S Phillips will speak at 9:45 a.m. April 29 to the Elizabeth Avenue Presbyterian Church Adult Bible Class.
