Detective believes Richard J. Reynolds 21 year old heir to the Reynolds estate is in New York after a Chicago stop and a submerged car found in Long Island Sound. Reynolds Airways officers say they hired private investigators as concerns grow.
In Charlotte on September 27 police hunted Charlie Padgett and a man known as Red after a dawn clash with three officers at the Jones residence. Romeo Padgett was badly wounded and his brother Charlie with a hand injury fled toward the mountains as Sheriff and Rural Police sought them and Frank Jones and his wife acted as witnesses.
In Geneva on September 27 AP reports President Alberto Guani of Uruguay told the League of Nations assembly that the drive to reduce armaments remains strong. He noted progress toward an early reduction and stronger security guarantees as Locarno influence spreads, while the assembly adjourned at 12:20 p.m.
President Coolidge finds substance in Rear Admiral Magruder’s magazine critique but rejects the conclusion that the navy is over officered. The passing remark in Nebraska coverage is noted as part of the broader debate on naval staffing.
Federal Judge Woodrough in Omaha Nebraska held that a personal injunction under the national prohibition law would allow imprisonment without jury trial. Chicago Sept 27 AP Dempsey is guaranteed a hearing by the Illinois boxing commission if he protests the decision in the Tunney bout. Paul Prehn said the written protest should reach the commission in time for today's regular meeting.
Jim Riddle was arrested by federal marshals on a national prohibition act charge in Greensboro after stopping a rum running car near Stoneville, taking the car and liquor to Greensboro, selling the liquor, and returning the car to its owner for 100 dollars. He posted a $1,000 bond for December court. Previously a federal agent in the region, he was known for seizures and raids in North Carolina and Virginia.
A Cleveland common pleas court jury awarded $3,675 to Mr and Mrs Joseph Mack for an arrest and jailing after officers found them kissing in their parked automobile. The verdict followed a speedy trial with brief deliberation.
Ashe ville report says coroner ruled Sol Schwartz Charlotte merchant died from an overdose of medicines used to treat sinus trouble and affirmed the death was not a suicide. An inquest was deemed unnecessary.

Bennett J. Doty of Memphis was pardoned today by the French government from an eight year prison sentence. He was the only American member of the French foreign legion and was serving in salt mines for desertion when the pardon was granted. The sentence was commuted from a death penalty. Doty had previously been in Memphis recovering from illness after being dismissed from the U S army following World War I. He had been severely wounded serving in the Spanish legion.
In Rome on September 27 Donna Rachele Mussolini, wife of Prime Minister Benito Mussolini, gave birth to a son at Villa Carpena near Forli. The newborn will be baptized Romano at Carpena church tomorrow. Both mother and child are reported well. The premier arrived at Carpena yesterday in anticipation of the birth.
The text notes Donna Rachele Guidi Mussolini would become a mother of a fourth child while Villa Carpen near Mussolini’s birthplace was tightly closed to outsiders. Mussolini reportedly told a journalist that his wife and family do not exist, and his children Edda Vittorio and Bruno were largely educated by him.
In Cleveland a $15,000 damage suit by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mack against Police Sergeant Frank L. Rolfs rests before a common pleas jury. The Macks testified that in July lights flashed on their car and Rolfs jailed them after seeing Mrs Mack in her husband’s lap during a kiss. Rolfs said he stopped the car for noise and doubted their marriage.
Reuben Mullis of Mint Hill is jailed on a kidnapping charge involving Eunice Bartlett, age 14, daughter of W T Bartlett. Mullis reportedly married her in York South Carolina and failed to post a $500 bond. Magistrate Tom Gribble set a hearing for Thursday as Bartlett and his brothers planned to recover the girl.
Secretary Wilbur may not discipline Rear Admiral Magruder yet but Congress plans to summon him for elaboration of his accusations against Navy administration and appropriations. Magruder in Philadelphia outlined a broad reorganization plan needing expert support.
Friends of Mr and Mrs C H McNeill of 1443 North Main Street regret the death of their infant son early last night at a local hospital. Short services were held this afternoon at the home by Rev J M Hilliard pastor Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Interment followed in Lebanon Cemetery.
Geneva Sept 27 The League of Nations council appointed an American to its permanent economic committee. Jeremiah Smith of Boston had already been named to the financial committee, placing Americans on two League bodies devoted to world economic and financial reconstruction.
Mrs Jessie P Burgess 67 widow of textile maker William Dennis Burgess died at 201 Lindsay Street High Point after eight months illness. Born Chat ham County May 19 1860 she married Burgess October 11 1883 and helped lead local social religious life as member of First Methodist Protestant church. Survived by four daughters Blanche Bass Harris Shuey six sons Don M Burgess William W Burgess J Glenn Burgess J Harvey Burgess W Ray Burgess Huster Burgess of Durham and sister Mrs J H Johnson of Graham. Funeral plans not set.
Bishop Edwin D. Mouzon of the Methodist Episcopal church will address the Wesley Memorial church men's club at their dinner meeting Thursday night at 7:30. Music and informal talks will follow. all men of the church and friends are invited.
