Britain wins the Schneider Cup in Venice as Flight Lieutenant Webster leads with 453.282 kmh. In Los Angeles, two robbers seize about 85000 dollars from the Water and Power bureau after forcing open the payroll safe and binding three officials.
In Chicago Frank Schlieben an 18 year old labeled the neighborhood tough is held for the slaying of 16 year old Stephanie Celac. Police say he confessed saying he shot to scare her claiming the trigger stuck but the girl died from a bullet to the heart. The motive involved late hours and a breakup with Schlieben amid his mother’s warnings of self harm and danger.
In the Bahamas Charles H. Nestle a former American prohibition agent is held on piracy charges for alleged unauthorized involvement in a coast guard seizure of rum runners near British waters. Nassau reports say Nestle admits riding the cutter during the seizure and faces hearing by a magistrate in Rimini. Two other suspects, Charles Wolf and A. E. Fisher, testified against Nestle, with Miami lawyers alleging Nestle helped capture the rum boats within the three mile limit.
In New York a 65 year old Biaggio Arsenio is accused of shooting seven year old Angeline Constance in her East 108th street home in revenge for his daughter's elopement. Arsenio fled rooftops after the fatal shot found in the bedroom. Police also recovered firearms linked to the case and notes of prior confrontations with the girl's family.
Maj. Mario de Bernardi led Italy to victory with an average 246.496 mph over a 350 km course watched by 250000 spectators. Lieut. O. E. Worlsey of Britain was second at 272.912 mph while the U. S. did not race after Lt. Alford J. Williams failed to complete pre race tests and endured engine trouble and weather delays.
In Nice on September 26, authorities guarded American Legion tourists after Sacco Vanzetti sympathizers were linked to three train wreck plots along the Riviera. Bombs damaged track near Golfe Juan while other devices were found near Monte Carlo and Cannes. No injuries reported amid heightened security as the legionnaires toured Cannes and Monte Carlo.
Raleigh September 26 Hunter Ellington was elected to fill the unexpired term of the late William Henry Penney as Wake County register of deeds Ellington had served as deputy in the office and Penney's funeral was held yesterday
Crawford Matlock of Leatherman North Carolina killed himself in Detroit after his sweetheart died last week and his mother died yesterday. He phoned friend Robert Bryson to say he would take poison, Bryson rushed to the apartment but Matlock died within minutes at a hospital. The body was taken to a morgue and Bowman Matlock, his father, was notified.
Lieut Otko Koennecke the German long distance flier, with Jo hannes and Count George Solms-Laubach, left Anara Turkey Saturday for Basra heading toward America via the Orient. After 48 hours with no word Basra reports radio and telegram links but no contact.
The Atlantic County investigation into Dr. A William Lilliendahl s death nears a breakthrough with prosecutors expecting at least one murder arrest. His widow Margaret Lilliendahl and Willis Beach remain free on bail as witnesses. Beach, a poultry farmer, allegedly admitted letters to Peggy Anderson and met the widow at a secluded glen post office hollow oak. Pistols found at Beach s home await firearms analysis. one matches the weapon believed used in the shooting. Beach claimed the guns belonged to his son Raymond, a claim borne out by the son. The will left $15000 to the physician s widow.
Hong Kong reports 5000 dead from a tidal wave and typhoon that struck Yeungkong in Kwangtung on September 10. 20000 homes damaged 400 ships destroyed. Estimated total losses reach 1 million dollars. The storm also damaged Kiushiu and parts of Hondo after hitting Japan.
Milwaukee September 26 AP definite signals that the LaFollette faction will run presidential delegates independent of the national Republican party. State Senator John B Chase, LaFollette chair, said the Wisconsin party would make no recommendations to William Butler chairman of the national committee. He announced a meeting in Washington on October 4 to discuss the state situation.
Seven United States destroyers of the 45th division led by the Paul Jones arrived in Saigon. The French governor greeted the ship's officers aboard the Paul Jones. A government dinner and extensive entertainments for the sailors are planned during their visit.

A coast guard patrolman near Manteo North Carolina recovered a bottle with a message signed Nungesser and Coli claiming the airmen are lost at sea off Halifax Nova Scotia. The call for aid was written on airplane linen in English and warned that the aircraft wrecked and to notify the finder.
North Atlantic district longshoremen voted to accept a steamship owner offer raising wages by five cents an hour. The checkers local will decide tonight on the proposal, with raises from $6 to 6.50 a day and a requested $7. The vote was not unanimous.
