Washington dispatch reports the Allies advancing in Italy while Soviet forces near Kiev tighten the pressure. Senator Wheeler opposes the draft bottleneck and the administration proceeds with plans to block the draft of fathers, despite protests.

Hospitalized victims included Matt Garrett Joe Stafford and Giles Jones with rib and eye injuries. The bus crew worked the night shift bound for the Norfolk Navy Yard.
Washington report says Ralph Burton, counsel for the House military sub committee, claims about 300000 draft age non fathers are in government service and not called up for induction though fewer than half have deferments. He urged immediate inquiry into federal deferment policies.
Allied air forces carried a four-pronged assault within 18 hours. British bombers hit Hannover and Emden Oldenburg while American Fortresses attacked Alanies and two French airfields at Vannes Mecon and Berlin Bastard. Marauders struck Conches near Paris joining earlier raids on Evereau Fauville.
