North Carolina farm bankruptcies are down in recent years while yields improve. The Farm Forecaster notes cotton damage from boll weevils but wheat, oats, corn, peanuts and potatoes show gains. Wheat production up about 2 percent, 7 percent above five year average. peanuts up ~25 percent. Irish potatoes ~16 percent higher.
Grover Sept 22 AP search continues for three of four men linked to the fatal beating of Claude Long a 32 year old Black man who died from injuries. Ernesto Hicks Jack Westmoreland Marcel Fortune and Hoyle Allen were named as suspects with Fortune surrendering to police. The group had allegedly beaten a small Black boy after a May court appearance.
