Old Glory Believed Lost Plane Struck Water at 90 MPH
Crew of the Kyle expressed belief the monoplane Old Glory, missing after attempting a trans Atlantic flight, struck the water head on with a slight right list while traveling about 90 miles an hour. The Kyle returned to port with wreckage recovered miles off the Newfoundland coast.

Davidson Farmer Loses Barn in Thunderstorm
A Lexington farmer Sid Weaver lost his barn and two valuable mules when lightning struck his barn during a Monday afternoon thunderstorm. A motorist reportedly drove under the barn to take shelter and escaped unharmed. The blaze also destroyed the barn feed and related structures on the farm a half mile east of Lexington.

Travelers delayed by hospitality on Colonial highway tour
A logging group traveling the Colonial highway from New York to New Orleans arrived in Greensboro after 7 pm last night, delayed two hours by warm hospitality in Charlotte and other stops.
