Former President Truman urged Soviet Premier Khrushchev to keep calm under questioning. While visiting family in New York he noted reporters can be persistent, and said Khrushchev should not grow angry when faced with tough questions.
State bacteriologists sought to identify a disease affecting about 300 inmates at Eastham State Prison Farm near Houston Texas. Nearly 200 of the prison population of 1300 were tested with throat swabs and food samples collected by technicians.
In Charlotte a 75 year old widow, Fay Belle Dick, was found strangled in a locked tomb with signs of rape and rope burns. A 14 year old boy entered the tomb on a dare, guiding police to the scene where the body lay amid grave markers and stray sticks with a dead small dog nearby. Autopsy ordered by Mecklenburg County Coroner W M Summerville to determine full cause and timing.
