The Alexander County Board of Education voted to let Vernon Morrison continue as Taylorsville High School football coach. Morrison’s status had been uncertain since a Taylorsville player died from heat fatigue. The board attached conditions to the approval.
The French War Veterans' Organization of Algeria pledged to keep Algeria French, calling on the French and local population to back its fight. A 40-group union committee resolution said no force can stop its objective and urged Algeria's integration with France.
Residents in a four block area in northeast High Point lost water when a 12 inch main at Waverly and Williams streets leaked. Water department crews responded at 9 30 p m and identified a parted joint. Service was expected to be restored by 3 a m.
