White House South Lawn Buzz Over Lynda Bird Robb Engagement
The day after Lynda Bird Johnson announced her engagement to Marine Capt. Charles Robb, the White House lawn hosted photo sessions and a grand country fair. King Constantine of Greece visited for talks with President Johnson as Melina Mercouri protested outside the gates. Vice President Humphrey toured the fair in an antique Model T, while LBJ befriended his new dog Yuki. Robb guided reporters and press secretary Carpenter kept order.
